Common Questions
How long does treatment take?
Invisalign® uses a series of custom-made clear aligners to gently move your teeth into alignment. You’ll switch to a new set every 1–2 weeks as your smile gradually transforms.
Does it hurt?
You may feel slight pressure or tenderness when switching to a new set of aligners, this is normal and a sign they’re working. Most patients find Invisalign® much more comfortable than braces.
How do I clean my aligners?
Rinse them with lukewarm water and brush gently using a soft toothbrush. Avoid hot water, which can warp the material.
Will it affect my speech?
Most patients adjust within a few days. Any slight lisp usually disappears as you get used to wearing the aligners.

Meet The Doctor
Dr. Michael Costa
Dr. Michael Costa pursued his higher education at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in Chapel Hill, NC, earning a Master of Healthcare Administration (M.H.A.) degree. He continued at the UNC School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in 2014. After completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Camp Lejeune, NC, he served as an active-duty Naval Dental Officer, providing essential dental services to thousands of Marines and Sailors.
After his military service, Dr. Costa became the lead dentist in a large group practice in Wilmington, NC, where he focused on oral surgery, dental implants, and bone grafting. He believes strongly in continuing education, having completed the Augusta University Comprehensive Training in Implant Dentistry Course and working towards being an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
